🌀 When Life Feels Hard — What If It’s a Turning Point?

by 말의 힘, 삶의 길 그리고 소통 2025. 4. 20.

The Wisdom of the Old Tale: The Horse of the Frontier Man

🐎 Ever heard of the Chinese proverb “Sai Weng Shi Ma”?
It comes from an old story passed down through generations.

An old man living near the border lost his horse.
The villagers came to offer sympathy, but the man simply said,

“Who knows? This might turn out to be a good thing.”

And it was.
The horse returned days later — with an even better horse beside it.
The villagers congratulated him. But the old man smiled and said,

“Well, this too... could turn out to be bad.”

As it happened, his son broke his leg while riding the new horse.
But because of his injury, he avoided being drafted into a brutal war.

🌗 The moral?
What seems like misfortune today may turn into a blessing tomorrow.
And what feels like good fortune may hold hidden trials.
It’s all about how we choose to see it.

🧭 What If Today’s Struggle Is Your Turning Point?

Maybe you’re asking:

“Why do I have to go through this?”

If that’s you —
you might be closer to a breakthrough than you think.

Pain can point us toward growth.
Failure can redirect us to a better path.
Hardship might be the very thing that awakens our true potential.

You’ve heard these stories:

  • A friend failed an exam, only to find a career they love even more
  • A coworker made a big mistake — and ended up becoming top performer

These aren’t miracles.
They’re what happen when people don’t give up.
Bad luck becomes new beginnings — for those who keep going.

⛰️ The Taste of Effort: A Story from the Mountains

There's an old tale of a man who carried firewood down the mountain every day.
On his way home, he’d drink cool spring water —
and each sip brought him pure joy.

Later in life, he fell ill. His last wish was to taste that water again.
His son brought it to him, but the man said,

“This isn't it.”

The son replied, “But I brought it from the same spring!”

Still, the man shook his head.

“No… it doesn’t taste the same.”

Why?
Because the joy wasn’t just in the water.
It was in the effort — the sweat, the climb, the satisfaction of earning it.

🌱 Joy is deeper when we’ve worked for it.

🌤️ Don’t Rush to Label Things “Good” or “Bad”

  • Celebrate success, but don’t become careless.
  • Endure setbacks, but don’t lose hope.

Life isn’t black and white.
What matters is your perspective.
The meaning you give to each moment is what shapes your journey.

💬 Final Thought

“Even if it’s hard now, you never know how this story ends.”

Life moves in cycles.
Fortune and misfortune often come disguised.
When things go well — stay humble.
When times are tough — hold on.

Because in life,

✨ “It’s not over until it’s truly over.”
